The Lawn Menu Tasting with the Roux Family – An Events Team perspective
Tasting Michelin star food and sipping on award winning wine is actually all it’s cracked up to be. But believe it or not it’s also a lot of hard work which requires expertise, imagination and durable taste buds.
Our Events Team here at Keith Prowse do all the hard work, so our guests can enjoy the pinnacle of hospitality during The Championships, Wimbledon.
The Lawn facility is an unforgettable way to enjoy superb hospitality at Wimbledon, with an à la carte menu designed and delivered by the Roux family, and tried, tasted and shortlisted by our Events Team. But what does a day of tasting really look like? Well, you’re about to find out…
The Events team arrive for the tasting around 10am with wine tasting the first port of call for the day. 36 bottles seems like a good place to start, meaning they have around 3 minutes on each bottle to decide if they make the cut. All of the wine available at The Lawn is provided by our exclusive wine supplier Jascots.
Trying the wine is not as easy as it sounds, there are rosés and dessert wines and even different wines for weeks 1 and 2. It’s the sort of task that requires a clear head!
Moving on to the food and 2 hours later Albert Roux OBE, Michel Roux Jr and Emily Roux arrive. The Roux Family not only design and deliver the food but also help with the pairing of wine and dishes. This requires a lot of planning and … yep, you guessed it – more wine tasting. Once the Rouxs have tasted the wine choices, the team work their way through 24 magnificent dishes, 11 mouth-watering cheeses and 3 premium caviars.
It may sound like a big old jolly, and tastings can be some of the best days at work, but the responsibility of choosing the right menus and wines should not be underestimated.
And, the tasting, eating and deliberating doesn’t stop there…
After lunch the team loosen their belts and tackle afternoon tea, trying to get 12 large cakes, 39 mini cakes and 7 sandwiches onto the menu. Pushing through post-lunch fatigue, they work through the choices made that day. And if that wasn’t enough, they also spend quite a bit of time talking about crockery before calling it a day at 5pm.
Thank goodness the cocktail tasting’s not on the same day!
