England Cricket Preview 2021

After a tough year in which international cricket was very much at a premium, England are all set to return with a run of exciting matches in 2021. Demand is expected to be higher than ever, with cricket fans eager to witness the world’s best players in action once again. The summer excitement is already taking shape, with matches against Sri Lanka and Pakistan confirmed.

First up is an ODI clash with Sri Lanka at The Kia Oval on Thursday 1 July. This will be the second game in a three-match series that looks set to arrive off the back of a marathon tour of South Asia for England.  Next will be an ODI clash with Pakistan at Edgbaston on Tuesday 13 July, the third game in a series that looks set to attract plenty of interest across the country.

In this article, we will take a quick look at each of these games and what they have in store for fans. From expected teams to the history behind each match, we will provide a brief preview of each ODI as cricket returns to England once again in Summer 2021.

England v Sri Lanka - 2nd ODI - The Kia Oval – 1 July 2021

After a long tour of Sri Lanka and India in Winter 2021, England will no doubt be very familiar with much of this Sri Lankan side by the time their three-game ODI series rolls around.

Having spent so long playing on the subcontinent’s dry, unpredictable wickets, England will be grateful for a return home and will fancy themselves to win the series. The opportunity to play in front of their own fans for the first time in over a year will be one that the England players look to grab with both hands.

England last met Sri Lanka in an ODI at the 2019 World Cup, a game which the hosts lost by 20 runs before going on to win the tournament. With that said, the pair will become much better acquainted during England’s two-test tour of Sri Lanka in January 2021. Though it is much too early to predict line-ups, fans can expect senior names to figure in both series.

England v Pakistan - 3rd ODI - Edgbaston – 13 July 2021

Whenever England and Pakistan meet on British soil there is always an extra-special atmosphere, with fans from both sides turning up in support. After so long without the chance to enjoy live international cricket, this game at Edgbaston in Summer 2021 looks set to be no exception!

England will feel well-equipped to deal with the Pakistan attack after a long stint playing against opposition from the subcontinent. The fact that Pakistan beat the hosts last time the two faced off will not be far from England’s minds in the run up to this one.

Yet as reigning world champions, England will feel confident going into the game at Edgbaston, especially after building a head of steam in the months leading up to the series against Pakistan.

Without a doubt, cricket looks all set for a return to England in Summer 2021. With games at both The Kia Oval and Edgbaston to look forward to, Keith Prowse is proud to offer the ultimate in premium cricket hospitality.
