Coming off the back of two emphatic wins in the recent Summer Series against the USA and Canada, the fresh-faced England squad really did impress. However, we suspect the team will be making room for some more regular players in coming autumn international series.
Due to the Lions tour happening out in South Africa there were lots of debuts and uncapped players in the squad - 22 to be precise! There was many fantastic performances from the likes of Marcus Smith, Harry Randall and Ellis Genge. Although we think, three players stood out beyond the rest… Let’s look a little closer at these players who include Joe Cokanasiga, debutant Adam Radwan and Jamie Blamire.
Joe Cokanasiga
Cokanasiga made his long-awaited return to the international stage against the USA; the Bath winger has Fijian heritage and is known for his devastating ball carrying. Unfortunately, Cokanasiga severely injured his knee during the 2019 World Cup in Japan. Before the Summer Series Joe had registered 8 caps scoring 7 tries; continuing his incredible try scoring record on the international stage, Joe scored 4 tries in England’s wins over the USA and Canada. The stand-out try came when England went through the phases, working the ball from the left wing then over to the right to Cokanasiga - the heavy hitting winger then bulldozed through Canadian fly-half Peter Nelson before scoring. Going forward Joe Cokanasiga will look to cement his place in Eddie Jones’ plans for this year’s autumn internationals, next year’s Six Nations and the 2023 World Cup.
Adam Radwan
Newcastle Falcons Adam Radwan made his debut for England in the Summer Series against Canada. The winger is known for his blistering pace and finishing ability; something that Eddie Jones cited for his reasons behind selecting Radwan. As debuts go Radwan’s is up there with the best, scoring a hat-trick was very impressive. A vote on England Rugby’s twitter even awarded the Man of the Match to Radwan. The stand-out try came when Radwan received the ball on the left-hand side, he weaved through two players and then sensationally beat another two for pace around the outside before finishing. Have England and Eddie Jones found the new Jonny May? I’m sure we will find out the answer to that question in the months and years ahead.
Jamie Blamire 
Fellow Falcon Jamie Blamire made his first appearance for England as a second half substitute in the Summer Series game against the USA. Fresh on the pitch in the second half, Blamire charged down a box kick before chasing it down and scoring England’s 5th try. Eddie Jones went on to give Blamire his full debut against Canada after impressing the week before; the hooker certainly didn’t disappoint scoring a hat-trick. All three of Blamire’s tries came from rolling mauls, highlighting England’s forward dominance. England are blessed with two quality hookers in Jamie George and Luke Cowen-Dickie however, if Blamire continues to perform it’ll be hard to leave him out of the squad for the upcoming autumn internationals.
Looking Forward
With the Autumn internationals kicking-off in less than 6 weeks, England men’s head coach Eddie Jones has named a 45-player squad for a short training camp forming part of England's preparations for the tournament.
England clearly have some exciting talent in their ranks, we can’t wait to see them progress and develop going forward. After their performances in the recent Summer Series and announcement in the training squad, we can’t wait to see who makes the final cut this November.
