Knowing what to wear to the tennis can be a whole different ball game compared to other sports. Whilst most eyes will be drawn to the courts at The Queen’s Club, where some of the world’s top men’s tennis players will step up to compete, people will also be scouting out the outfits among spectators..
There isn’t an official dress code for spectators at the HSBC Championships, however we do have a few ‘no-go’s’ to highlight, as well as some our top tips on what to wear – here’s how to ace that dress code…
For Her
Effortless yet sophisticated is the vibe to go for when doing a day at The Queen’s Club. If you’re a dress, jumpsuit or skirt wearer, we give the nod to both floral and floaty, or a classic, white summer’s dress - in honour of the famous tennis whites. Complete the look with a light summer or denim jacket. Yet if the suit-and-trouser is a little more ‘you’, we suggest classic white or summer colours such as pastels. Add a touch of texture to your suit look with a classic blouse too.
Team your outfit with the perfect pair of shoes; for those in our more casual dining settings, Love Fifteen and Roof Garden, we suggest something along the lines of sandals, pumps or espadrilles. A whole day on your feet will feel effortless! For those in our more luxurious spaces - Club Lounge, The View, President’s Room, Real Tennis Museum or Real Tennis Dedans – you might want to go for ‘team heels’, however a funky flat or wedge can also add that touch of class to your outfit. Here’s some HSBC Championships inspiration for the ladies:

For Him
Gents, here’s your time to shine - the freshly manicured grounds of The Queen’s Club are calling for some stylish outfit choices to mirror.
Love Fifteen, The View and Roof Garden goers will hit that smart-casual button with a good pair of tapered and shirt – we recommend a striped number to give that ‘wow’ factor without needing a blazer or tie. Although we also give the nod to a classic white…you can’t go wrong! Long sleeves add a touch of formality – roll them up a little if it does get warm.
Something to bear in mind is that those in the President’s Room will need to wear a tie, so a good-quality white shirt will complement this perfectly. And, for those in the Club Lounge, chinos and blazer for that extra touch of style; what’s more, both are heat-appropriate and summer friendly, especially if going for the linen-crafted blazers. Regarding the footwear department, we suggest a classic deck shoe, or contemporary designer loafer. Otherwise, minimalist, white trainers are also acceptable. While all different, these three options all deliver in both style and comfort - a must for a day at the tennis. See some our favourite styles below:

T
he Finishing Touches
We all know how temperamental the British weather can be – clear skies and soaring sunshine one minute and torrential downpours the next! Hence, we suggest you prepare for all weather conditions. For the ladies, pick up an elegant summer bag for all your necessities too. Unlike other sporting events, hats at the tennis are not advised as they block the view of the spectators sitting behind. However if it is a particularly sunny day, perhaps opt for a classic Panama that can be easily folded away. Oh, and don’t forget your stylish sunnies – there’s nothing worse than having to squint all day!
The No-Go’s
As previously stated, there is no official dress code for the HSBC Championships. Nonetheless, avoid anything along the lines of ripped jeans, vests, dirty trainers, hoodies or sportswear. A day at the tennis is a great excuse to make a fashion statement and put the ‘everyday wardrobe’ away. Follow our style guide and we guarantee you’ll look as cool as the free-flowing Pimm’s and rosé.
