In this player in the spotlight piece, we will be taking a closer look at Jos Buttler – one of England’s most exciting players.
The No.1 wicket keeper batsmen play’s all three formats for the three lions and has been on the international cricket scene since making his debut for England back in 2011. Jos now has 293 caps for England and was a key component of the World Cup Winning team back in 2019.
Below is a table of Jos’ bio for England, highlighting his total runs scored, averages and some key information about him.
Domestic Cricket
When Jos isn’t playing for England, he plays for Lancashire in the County Championship and the Manchester Originals in The Hundred.
However, life as an international cricketer for England means there isn’t much time to play many county games, but Jos will most likely play a few of the early games in the Vitality Blast before joining his England teammates in preparing for the summer of test cricket.
The addition of The Hundred – crickets’ newest format, has certainly meant a busier domestic schedule for all the international players out there. However, for 2022 there will now be a clear split between when the T20’s finish and when The Hundred matches begin, meaning we hope to see a lot of more of the likes of Jos and his fellow England teammates in The Hundred games this season.
Career Highlights
Without a doubt, Jos’ career highlight is winning the 50 over World Cup and taking the tournament-winning stumping off the final ball. After a nail-biting match where the scores were tied after 50 overs, the final went to a super over. England set New Zealand a target of 16 runs to win the World Cup. New Zealand were left needing two runs off the final ball; as Guptill returned for the second run, Jason Roy threw to Buttler, who whipped off the bails sending Lord’s into pure elation. Butler has certainly made his mark on the England team and remains a vital part of the squad - we look forward to seeing what he delivers in 2022!
