The lush green pitch, the historic pavilion and the iconic backdrop…oh, and of course the world-class cricket. We're talking about none other than the famous Lord's!
My Lord, What Rich History
The history of Lord’s dates back to 1787, when a cricket ground was opened up by Thomas Lord on Dorset Fields in Marylebone. The ground was later moved to Lisson Grove, before its final and current destination was decided in 1814 in St John’s Wood.
The ground is commonly referred to as ‘The Home of Cricket’ and is one of the most famous cricket grounds in the world. Its founder, Mr Lord, was a professional bowler who played for Middlesex and Marylebone Cricket Club during his career, that spanned a total of fifteen years. Since its inception, the ground has become one of the homes of English Cricket and is such a quintessential piece of sporting culture.
Renowned for its rich and fascinating history, its beautiful grounds and prestigious name, Lord’s has seen some of the greatest cricket players in the world play on its hallowed grass. To add to its impressive history, the ground is also home to the oldest sporting museum in the world, bursting with historic artifacts and astonishing memorabilia from the sport from years gone by.
The ground now operates on one hundred percent renewable energy, making it the first cricket ground in the country to operate on one hundred percent wind energy.
