The Championships, Wimbledon
Djokovic is back at the top of his game after defeating Kyrios at The Championships, Wimbledon to secure his 21st Grand Slam title.
The No. 1 seed proved why he holds this position winning the Championships for the fourth year in a row that Wimbledon has been played. Having not lost a match on centre court in the past 9 years, could 2023 be the year that he matches Federer’s record of 8 wins at The Championships? With only one of his 7 matches being taken to 5 sets, I know who our money is on!
Djokovic Vs Nadal
Throughout both their careers both Djokovic and Nadal have been in fierce competition. Born just one year apart they have risen to become tennis legends, and as of this year have now overtaken Federer as the Grand Slam kings.
At the beginning of the year Djokovic, Nadal and Federer were all sitting on 20 Grand Slam titles. After the first two major tournaments of the year Nadal went storming ahead, winning both the Australian and the French Open raising him to 22. However, Djokovic has now closed the gap by winning The Championships, Wimbledon to put him on 21 wins just one behind Nadal.
Whilst Federer has not officially retired, after not appearing at Wimbledon 2022, it is unlikely he will be challenging Djokovic and Nadal for any major titles in the future leaving the two of them to battle it out for tennis supremacy.
As the only male pair in the open era to meet at all four Grand Slam finals, the competition between them is unlike any other rivalry in tennis. With the number of times they have faced each other and the quality of the matches being so high, their rivalry is likely to be the greatest in the history of the game.
In all match statistics they are extremely close and with neither looking to stop playing any time soon, all is to play for in the coming competitions. It’s astounding how close they really are in their results against each other, take a look for yourself below:

Djokovic and Nadal have met 18 times in Grand Slam matches and in 9 Grand Slam finals. Nadal leads 11-7 beating Djokovic most recently in the 2022 French Open quarterfinals. He also leads in Grand Slam finals having won 5 of the 9 matches compares to Djokovic’s 4.
However, whilst Nadal leads in Grand Slams, out of the 59 times they have faced each other throughout their entire career Djokovic has won 30 and Nadal 29. Even when it comes to sets and games won, they are both extremely close. With one more Open this year, all is to play for in the Grand Slam race.
