Founded and created in April last year, the Edgbaston Garden is now a welcome and relied upon source of fresh fruit and veggies for the stadium.
Located in the Colts Ground inside the Edgbaston perimeter, the garden is a step in the right direction to help achieve the stadiums ambitions sustainability goals and something we at Keith Prowse are fully supportive and proud of.
Producing a variety of veg in 2022, the garden not only provides a wealth of produce for match days, but also ensures the chefs at the stadium have access to certain fruits and vegetables with ease.

Last year’s growing list included cabbages, peas, beetroot, courgettes, mong tout, sorrel, baby gem lettuce, white and red strawberries and much more.
So, where did the vegetables get used I hear you ask?
Most of the veggies were used in our hospitality areas during the Vitality Blast and The Hundred matches – specifically in the Warwickshire Suite. The vegetables that weren’t used for matches in 2022 were then pickled ready to use for decoration on some of the buffet areas and in some of the 2023 dishes – pretty amazing right?!
What’s next for the Edgbaston Garden?
In 2023 the hope is to go bigger and better. The plan is to expand, hopefully get a greenhouse and a shed to enable the stadium to sow seeds themselves as they aspire for the full 360 growth cycle.
The plan for the future is to grow, produce and harvest the seeds, eventually enabling the stadium to become as self-sufficient as possible by replanting the seeds year-on-year. And the best part – they are planning to start the process this year with the butternut squash and pumpkin seeds they harvested from last year’s crops.
We can’t wait to see what they grow next and who knows, you could be tasting some home grown produce at this year’s fixtures!
