What to do in Eastbourne:
The Beach:
Eastbourne offers three miles of beautiful beaches that are especially popular during the summer, with people looking to get out in the sun! You can get to the beach easily from Devonshire Park Lawn Tennis Club, which is just an 8-minute walk south to the seafront. Enjoy fish and chips at the seaside from some of Sussex’s best and award-winning fish and chip shops. Or, if you are looking to cool off in the sun, grab an ice cream on the beach from one of Eastbourne’s many gelato and ice cream parlours, both at the seafront and throughout the town.
The Pier:
Eastbourne’s Pier first opened back in 1870; since then, it has been continuously repaired and improved, as it’s had to withstand years of storms and weathering from the sea, throughout its history. Today you will find on the Pier, Victorian tea rooms, a new glow-in-the-dark mini golf course, a jazz lounge and more! Just 15-minute walk from Devonshire Park…why not have a stroll down to this historic monument during your day at the tennis?
Local walks:
Eastbourne is a truly beautiful costal town with some amazing walks in the surrounding area. With the famous Seven Sisters chalk cliffs close by, if you have the time, it is worth exploring the gorgeous coastal scenery. Or simply go for a walk along the coastline – you really can walk for miles! There are different trails for all different levels of walkers: find walking maps and more information here.
Towner Eastbourne:
Towner is a contemporary art gallery in Eastbourne located just next to Devonshire Park, and just therefore just moments away from the tennis action. It’s a unique addition to Eastbourne architecture; you can’t miss it, as it was brightly painted by artist Lothar Götz back in 2019 and will remain that way until 2024! Admission is free to the gallery and all events and expeditions are also free, unless specifically stated otherwise.
We hope that you greatly enjoy your day at the Lexus Eastbourne Open, and if you are looking to make the most of your time, why not explore a bit and try out one (or more) of the activities suggested!
