Dominic Drakes heads to bears county for a grizzly run into Finals Day! The notorious fast-bowler from the West Indies is no stranger to Edgbaston, having played in last year’s Finals Day for Yorkshire. As well as his previous Edgbaston appearance, he will also be following in his father Vaspert footsteps, who made a total of 32 appearances for Warwickshire in 2001!
Drakes will come in to replace Hassan Ali as he receives a call-up to the Pakistan squad ahead of their tour to Sri Lanka. This means that Bears will still have two overseas players in their squad and will be hoping this allows them to maintain their dominance in the current tournament.
An exciting addition to the Bears squad, Drakes will now be available for selection in the upcoming home quarterfinals fixture this Thursday, the left armer will be hoping to help lead Bears to victory in the closing stages of the Vitality Blast. And, will be hoping to add to the Bears current dominant form they have found as they top the table in the closing weeks.
Drakes is a first-class bowler who has international experience having represented his national side on several occasions, meaning he is no stranger to those big occasions…such as Finals Day!
We can’t wait for the Finals Day teams to unfold, will Bears make the cut? Will Drakes play in another Finals Day at Edgbaston?
Drakes commented on the stature of Finals Day and what the opportunity is like as a player “I love playing in big crowds and having the opportunity to play in a quarterfinal, plus the chance to go one step further to Finals Day is exciting”.
A thrilling encounter is guaranteed, and Bears will be hoping that this new addition in their arsenate of bowling talent will allow them to take one step closer to lifting the trophy come Finals Day.
