Cricket has become one of the latest sports added to the ever-growing list of 42 disciplines now on the roster for the Olympics, as the International Olympic Committee have decided to re-introduce it to the 2028 Los Angeles Olympic schedule.
This isn’t the first time Cricket has made an appearance in the Olympics, it’s appeared once since Paris 1900 and resulted in Great Britain beating France by 158 runs in a one-off final.
Cricket, alongside Lacrosse, Flag Football, Squash and Soft Baseball – this will be the first-time squash and flag football will ever appear, have all been added to games following a proposal set forward by the Los Angeles Officials.
What format of cricket will appear in the Olympics?
It’s been decided that the chosen format for the Olympics will be T20 cricket. It’s quick, lively, and jam-packed full of action.
T20 cricket is also one of the simplest forms of cricket out there – perfect for first timers who might not be familiar with all the rules.
Starting with just six men’s and women’s teams, the hope is that the re-introduction will springboard the sport and encourage further participation and popularity.
