Thrilling T20 Finals Day Action

So, what happened in T20 Finals Day on the last few occasions?

The 2023 reigning champions are Somerset who will be hoping to retain their title in 2024. Last year, they beat Surrey in the first of the semi-finals, whilst the second was the battle of the birds - Essex Eagles took on the Hampshire Hawks. Essex came out on top in that head-to-head, so it was them who faced Somerset in the final. Somerset went on to win by just 14 runs - their first win since 2005, despite making it to Finals Day on multiple other occasions.
In 2022, Somerset and Hampshire both made it to Finals Day again, however it was Hampshire who took the win this time. The Hampshire Hawks knocked out Somerset, whilst the Yorkshire Vikings were beaten by Lancashire Lightning. Hampshire won by just one run in the final – proving just how tense and down to the wire the matches can really be, giving the crowd a fixture to remember!

Edgbaston: T20 Finals Day - who, what, why & when?

The Vitality Blast T20 Finals Day is the biggest day of domestic cricket out there. It’s a day consisting of three fixtures: the two T20 semi-finals, followed by the all-important and highly anticipated final. The four teams playing to win the title are whittled down from eighteen teams that start in the tournament, it all kicks off in just a couple of months’ time.
The 2024 final, on Saturday 14th September, guarantees exciting play, a lively atmosphere, and outstanding cricket – as well as some superb hospitality for our esteemed guests. And the best part? It all happens at the iconic Edgbaston Stadium – one of the world’s best cricketing venues.

Throwing it back to 2021, and it was the Kent Spitfires who were, once again, up against Somerset. Somerset beat Hampshire (unlike 2022) and Kent defeated the Sussex Sharks in the second semi-final. The Kent Spitfires managed to maintain their winning streak, winning by 25 runs in the final.
The past three years show just how exciting and unpredictable Finals Day can be, and with everything up for grabs in 2024 – it’s anybody’s game! Will Edgbaston’s own Warwickshire Bears take home the title on their home turf, like they did in 2014? Or will Surrey, the tournaments inaugural winners in 2003, finally be crowned the champions once again?
