The Laver Cup: A History of Rivals, Prestige and Global Stars

The Laver Cup has quickly become one of the most thrilling events in men’s tennis. With a unique team format, high-stakes matchups, and some of the sport’s biggest stars, this annual showdown captures the intensity of competition and the camaraderie of team sport - something rare in tennis.

Named in honour of Australian legend Rod Laver, the Laver Cup pits Team Europe against Team World, creating unforgettable moments and global fan interest. Some of the biggest names in tennis have graced the tournament courts, including the likes of Carlos Alcaraz, Alexander Zverev, Taylor Fritz, Alex de Minaur, Andy Murray, Rafael Nadal, Novak Djokovic and Roger Federer.

What Is the Laver Cup?

Launched in 2017, the Laver Cup is an official ATP, three-day team event where six elite players from Europe face six elite players from the rest of the world. Matches include both singles and doubles, and the tournament uses a progressive scoring format that keeps the outcome in suspense right through to the final day. Players compete for team pride and the opportunity to represent their region in a passionate, collaborative environment.
