The team’s official entry into Test cricket came in 1982, when they played their first-ever Test match against England at Lord’s. Sri Lanka has had several memorable performances at iconic venues like Edgbaston and The Kia Oval in England. They played their first Test at Edgbaston in 1998 and their first at The Kia Oval in 1984, both matches forming part of their journey to becoming one of the most respected teams in global cricket.

The Sri Lanka cricket team’s crowning moment in World Cup history came in 1996, when they triumphed in the ICC Cricket World Cup on home soil. Co-captained by Aravinda de Silva and Ranatunga, they defeated Australia in the final to claim their first-ever World Cup title. This historic victory solidified the Sri Lanka cricket team’s position as a global cricketing force, and their impact on the international stage continues to this day.

Over the years, the Sri Lanka cricket team has produced a number of exceptional cricketers who have left a lasting legacy in the game. Also inducted are Kumar Sangakkara, one of the finest wicketkeeper-batsmen, and Mahela Jayawardene, renowned for his elegant batting and leadership skills.
