What to wear to Wimbledon

YOUR WIMBLEDON STYLE GUIDE

Although a world-renowned sporting event, Wimbledon is so much more than the game of tennis. It's an event that Great Britain is extremely proud of, boasting tradition and being one of the most prestigious tennis tournaments in the world. Even for the casual viewers of tennis, Wimbledon prides itself as a cultural force and an item that sits high up on any bucket list to be able to attend.

There is no doubt that you will start thinking about the social and sporting highlight of the summer very soon - the global tennis pros, the refreshing flow of Pimm’s and strawberries and cream, the very best of British - but have you thought about the high fashion stakes? Wimbledon attracts some of fashion's most iconic influences and celebs who always leave us admiring all the outfit details. Well worry no more. From chic and stylish to smart and statement, we have put together a little style guide so you can ace your attire at the tennis.

With brands ranging from luxury high-street, to the timeless elegance of long-standing Wimbledon partner Ralph Lauren, we have included some of our favourites on how to style Wimbledon.

WOMEN

Although there is no specific dress code for Wimbledon goers, smart dress is encouraged. It is also advised that you consider all weather conditions when going to Wimbledon - after all, this is Great Britain! For women, a light jacket or jumper to wear over your summer dress is a good idea, as are sunglasses. However, unlike other major sporting events, hats aren’t essential as they block the view of the spectators behind you. Instead, consider a classic Panama if sunny, which can be folded away yet still enjoyed away from court as you soak up the atmosphere around the grounds and in our hospitality areas.

Without doubt, Wimbledon is renowned for iconic and stand-out attire. Here are some of our favourite co-ords for this year…

THE DRESS/JUMPSUIT

There is always the option to embrace Wimbledon in a classic summer dress. While white gives the nod to your passion for tennis and elegance, you could also stand out with summer florals. Or, if dresses aren’t your style, achieve an on-point ensemble with a statement jumpsuit paired with heels, flats or wedges, along with a statement clutch and jewellery…

THE BLOUSE

You’ve opted for the suit-and-trouser option, but what about the blouse? Try plain and simple colours with a touch of texture for a chic court side look that would pair with any trousers or skirt.

Give your elegant look the finishing touches with the most stylish accessories - a Wimbledon look is not complete without them!

THE SHOES

Shoes are a whole different ballgame (excuse the pun). Do you go comfort or class? Why not go for both? Go high with the option of heels or wedges, or opt for the funky flat. Whilst different, all three certainly boast style and are easily adaptable to suit whatever outfit you choose.

MEN

Much like the women’s dress code, there are no official guidelines on how the men should dress at Wimbledon. However, it goes without saying that men should look sharp for the world’s most prestigious tennis tournament. With A-list celebrities and fashion icons such as David Beckham and Bradley Cooper spotted at the event, the gentlemen have a lot to live up to in the fashion department!

THE SHIRT

Whether you’re going for a suit or summer separates, a smart shirt is key. As official partners of Wimbledon since 2006, Ralph Lauren steals the show in the shirt department. Look for the nautical influence with the blue and white colour pairing, or go simply white for a classic, fail-safe look to make sure you come out on top. Pair with a statement tie or something a little more modest if you're wanting to really dress the part.

If you did decide to ditch the one-piece suit, we have some smart options for your trouser styles. You’ll want to avoid denim due to the heat and the fact it can be deemed too casual in some areas of Wimbledon. With that in mind, choose for a pair of slim-fit trousers or chinos, in a classic beige, navy or even a bolder colour like red to bring that summer party look to life.

THE ACCESSORIES

Top your Wimbledon experience off with a strong line-up of accessories - as well as a stylish Panama, prepare for either rain or sunshine with your best shades and an umbrella. -you wouldn't want the outfit to get wet after all your effort putting it together!

THE SHOES

Finally, make sure to complement the rest of your outfit with the perfect footwear. Trade in your trainers for a classic black shoe or contemporary designer loafer for both style and comfort - both of which are essential for a full day of tennis.
